Prop 57

The Public Safety and Rehabilitation Act

An incredible 64% of California voters passed Prop 57 in November 2016, making three BIG changes for system-involved youth and adults: (1) reforms to how youth's cases are handled in juvenile court; (2) CDCR must create a new parole process for people serving sentences for nonviolent offenses; and (3) CDCR is overhauling its good credit system to create incentives for people's rehabilitative efforts in prison. CDCR is still drafting rules and regulations for the second and third parts of Prop 57 impacting people in the adult prison system. Root & Rebound is among the many groups and individuals in the state paying close attention to the Prop 57 rule-making process and advocating for people and families directly impacted by incarceration.
